NEWS RELEASE

No. 07- 135

Issuance Date: October 4, 2007

Subject: Falsely Reporting- Burglary in Progress

Issuing Authority: Detective Lieutenant Brad Weidel

Thomas Demont, age 61 of 8 East Place, Montebello was charged today with Falsely Reporting an Incident in the first degree as an A-Misdemeanor. He was released on an appearance ticket with a return date of October 25, 2007 in Ramapo Justice Court.

On September 28, 2007 at 8:31am, he reported that he heard noises in the dining room and when he went to investigate them an unknown male suspect fled the residence at 8 East Place in the Village of Montebello. He told officers that he believed that the suspect had entered his residence through an open garage door.

His report generated a large police response from the Ramapo Police Department, New York State Police Aviation Unit and the Rockland County Sheriff's Department BCI Division. The Ramapo Central Schools also directed a “lockdown” of area schools for the entire day. Our investigation determined that the incident did not occur.
