Seniors: Ramapo's Most Precious Resource

A Message from the Supervisor

Today there are over 70 million Americans over the age of 50, by 2015, that number will grow to 108 million.
Many people think that the first 60 years of life is an exciting experience. In Ramapo, however, the second 60 years provides the most fun.

Visit any of our senior citizen clubs and watch your contemporaries in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s enjoying themselves by participating in all the activities the clubs provide.

Our senior citizens can spend every day of the week at a different club, meeting with their contemporaries, exchanging jokes, participating in arts and crafts, lively discussion groups, playing cards, learning new dances, playing bingo, bocci or board games, or just sharing stories about their grandchildren.

Each month, hundreds of our seniors go on trips to historic places of interest, to resort areas, shows, and to resturants, with financial help from the Town Government. I am delighted to know that our senior citizens are saving money by using their senior citizen cards. Our two beautiful Town swimming pools, which are used heavily by our senior population throughout the summer months, are free to senior citizens who live in the Town.

Senior citizens discount rates apply when our seniors want to sign up to play golf at our award-winning Spook Rock Golf Course. They also receive a discount when they apply for a Tennis ID card to use on our fabulous Town tennis courts.

I would like to thank the four members of the Ramapo Town Board, Hon. Edward Friedman, Hon. Frances M. Hunter, Hon. Harry Reiss and Hon. David J. Stein, for their support in providing you with the best of services because you deserve it.

The Supervisor's "Over 90" Club

The Town of Ramapo is blessed with many senior citizens. There are 23 senior citizen clubs in the Town of Ramapo that have many active members. There are a number of senior citizens who are 90 years old and over who belong to these clubs as well. These seniors are still actively participating in their seniors clubs. The Supervisor thought it would be an inspiration to the younger members of these clubs to see the “90 plus” generation singled out to join a special club. In order to join the Supervisor’s “over 90” Club, members have to be at least 90 years old and actively involved in one of the town’s senior citizen clubs!

The members meet twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. They are picked up at their home in a luxurious coach and transported to a gourmet luncheon. They also receive gifts to take home with them. Guest speakers come to keep the seniors up to date in various areas of learning and government. And to make it even better, there are no dues.

Young seniors in there 70’s and 80’s can look forward to new and exciting experiences in their 90’s by joining this unique club!

The motto of the Supervisor’s “Over 90” Club is: “Come grow old along with me, the best is yet to be!”
