Big Screen Classics, Saturday, April 5, 2008
SATURDAY, APRIL 5TH – THE BIG SCREEN CLASSIC MOVIE at the Lafayette Theater in Suffern – “The Natural” (1984) – Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford), an unknown middle-aged batter with a mysterious past and a natural baseball talent, appears out of nowhere to take a losing 1930s baseball team to the top of the league in this magical sports fantasy. A once-promising young baseball player whose career is sidetracked when he is shot by a crazed fan, Hobbs is signed on by the New York Knights fifteen years later as a last chance at baseball after battling the demons of his past. His trials and suffering are slowly revealed as childhood sweetheart Iris Gaines (Glenn Close) returns to his life. However, it is the choices that Hobbs makes with the women in his life that could lead to his downfall again.
