FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Supervisor St. Lawrence Announces Wal-Mart Withdraws Plans to Locate in Monsey

Suffern, N.Y. - Supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence announced today that he has received formal written notification from National Realty Development Corporation that it was withdrawing plans to build a 215,000 square foot Super Wal-Mart in Monsey, citing that “concerns of the Township cannot be met, and the project will not be approved.”

Gerald Birmingham, Executive Vice President of National Realty Development Corporation advised Supervisor St. Lawrence that “we will not continue to proceed with proposed development.”

“This is a truly historic day in the Town of Ramapo, I am very gratified that the scrutiny of our review process and my public opposition to this project resulted in the developer's decision not to proceed. As I stated months ago, a Wal-Mart Supercenter should be on a major highway, not on two-lane Route 59” said Supervisor St. Lawrence.
