The Town of Ramapo has officially received its Preserve America Community designation award at a gala ceremony on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel. The award was presented by Lyle Laverty, Assistant Secretary of the Department of the Interior.
Preserve America is an initiative that encourages and supports community efforts to preserve and enjoy our cultural and natural heritage. The goals of the initiative include a greater shared knowledge about the nation’s past, strengthened regional identities, and preservation of the country’s cultural and natural heritage. Since its inception in 2003, 500 communities nationwide have been designated Preserve America Communities. The benefits of the designation include:
· White House recognition
· Certificate and Preserve America road sign
· Eligibility for Preserve America grants
· Authorization to use the Preserve America logo on signs, banners, flags and promotional materials
· Listing in a web-based Preserve America Community directory
· National and regional recognition
The Town Board is proud that our Open Space preservation has achieved this national recognition.
