BIG SCREEN CLASSICS FILM FESTIVAL BEGINS MARCH 8TH

The Sixth Annual “Big Screen Classics” Film Festival will begin on Saturday, March 8th, at the historic Lafayette Theater in Suffern, New York. The Big Screen Classics Film Festival is sponsored by the Town of Ramapo in conjunction with Nelson Page, C.E.O. of the Galaxy Theater Corporation. The film series runs every Saturday morning from March 8th through June 21st and all movies begin at 11:30 AM, preceded by a Wurlitzer Organ Concert featuring Jeff Barker at 11:00 AM. Ramapo Seniors are admitted free of charge, all other tickets are $7.00.

The Sixth Annual “Big Screen Classics” Film Festival will begin on Saturday, March 8th, at the historic Lafayette Theater in Suffern, New York. The Big Screen Classics Film Festival is sponsored by the Town of Ramapo in conjunction with Nelson Page, C.E.O. of the Galaxy Theater Corporation. The film series runs every Saturday morning from March 8th through June 21st and all movies begin at 11:30 AM, preceded by a Wurlitzer Organ Concert featuring Jeff Barker at 11:00 AM. Ramapo Seniors are admitted free of charge, all other tickets are $7.00.

March 8th - North By Northwest (1959) - starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint - directed by Alfred Hitchcock. A hapless New York Advertising Executive is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies and is pursued across the country while he looks to survive.

March 15th - King Kong (1933) - starring Robert Armstrong and Fay Wray. A film crew goes to a tropical island for an exotic location shoot and discovers a colossal giant gorilla who takes a shine to their female blonde star.

March 22nd - Grand Hotel (1932) - starring John Barrymore and Greta Garbo. Berlin's plushest, most expensive hotel is the setting where “people come, people go and nothing ever happens” in the words of the film's main character.

March 29th - Double Indemnity (1944) - starring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. An insurance representative lets himself be talked into a murder/insurance fraud scheme that arouses an insurance investigator's suspicions.

April 5th - The Natural (1984) - starring Robert Redford and Glenn Close. An average baseball player comes out of nowhere to become a legendary player with almost divine talents.

April 12th - Jason & The Argonauts (1963) - starring Todd Armstrong, with special effects by Ray Harryhausen. A legendary Greek hero leads a team of intrepid adventurers in a perilous quest for the legendary Golden Fleece.

April 19th - Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939) - starring James Stewart and Jean Arthur, directed by Frank Capra. A naïve man is appointed to fill a vacancy in the U.S. Senate. His plans quickly collide with political corruption - but he doesn't back down.

April 26th - Stairway to Heaven (1946) - starring David Niven and Kim Hunter. A British Wartime aviator who cheats death must argue for his life before a celestial court.

May 3rd - Artists & Models (1955) - starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Eugene and Rick are two struggling artists who share an apartment. Eugene is obsessed with pulp fiction comic books, causing Rick to have nightmares, which provide excellent material for his own comic books.

May 10th - The Lady From Shanghai (1947) - starring Rita Hayworth and Orson Welles. Fascinated by gorgeous Mrs. Bannister, seaman Michael O'Hara joins a bizarre yachting cruise, and ends up mired in a complex murder plot.

May 17th - The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. When Prince John and the Norman Lords begin oppressing the Saxon masses in King Richard's absence, a Saxon Lord fights back as the outlaw leader of a rebel guerilla army.

May 24th - City Lights (1931) - starring Charlie Chaplin and Virginia Cherrill. A tramp falls in love with a beautiful blind girl. Her family is in financial trouble and the tramp's on and off friendship with a wealthy man allows him to be the girl's benefactor and suitor.

May 31st - In A Lonely Place (1950) - starring Humphrey Bogart and Gloria Grahame. A potentially violent screenwriter is a murder suspect until his lovely neighbor clears him - but after doing so, she begins to have doubts.

June 7th - His Girl Friday (1940) - starring Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell. A newspaper editor uses every trick in the book to keep his ace reporter ex-wife from remarrying.

June 14th - The Jolson Story (1946) - starring Larry Parks and Evelyn Keyes. This movie shows the idealized career of the singer Al Jolson. A little Jewish boy comes up against the will of his father to be in show business.

June 21st - Cartoon & Comedy Carnival! - featuring Looney Tunes, Three Stooges and much, much more!
