St. Lawrence Pledges Funding to Fight F.A.A. Plan

Suffern, N.Y. - Supervisor Christopher P. St. Lawrence announced today that the Town of Ramapo will make a financial contribution should a legal battle be necessary to stop the F.A.A.'s proposed airspace redesign plan from being implemented.

“This is perhaps the greatest threat to the quality of life in Rockland County - since power plants were proposed to be constructed in the Torne Valley. 600 planes a day will be the tip of the iceburg. The airlines have carte blanche on the number of planes that takeoff and land, more airspace will mean more profits for them, and more noise and pollution for us” stated Supervisor St. Lawrence.

Supervisor St. Lawrence has been in contact with County Executive Vanderhoef and other Town Supervisors, contemplating a united, bipartisan response to the F.A.A. plan.

“Six years ago Ramapo was told that the siting of power plants was a done deal - a resolute Town Board and support from throughout the County helped us to persevere. We must replicate this endeavor now. I urge all municipalities throughout Rockland County to join us” said St. Lawrence.
